Trains played an important role at the coke plant. They were used largely to move coal from nearby storage facilities to the plant as needed. The plant operated it’s own locomotives. Trains were also used to move hot iron from the furnace plant to the mill in Riverdale. Here at some of photos of Interlake/Acme locomotives I have accrued.
Also check out an array of railroad related documents I have put together below, and don’t miss out on the excellent article written by Bob Lalich.

Hello, very interesting website. I was wondering if you could help with a small mystery I have. Your picture of GE Box Cab #6 dated 5/1974 in the photo section. Do you know where the photo was taken and who the photographer was? Reason I ask is I recently purchased a very similar photo (slide actually) but it doesn’t have the location. My slide is also dated 5/1974, the author is hard to read but I think it says J. L. Jeffery. Any help would be most appreciated. And thank you for hosting this website your pic was the only lead I was coming up with to find the location. Best -RHJIII
Hello Richard – I’ll bet you purchased the slide on ebay – which is where i took (stole) the digital image from (the ebay auction). That is how I got most of the photos you see in this post. Whenever any info (date or place) is listed in the auction, I include it here. No location was given on the auction for this one, I wonder if this might be from Newport Kentucky. Thanks for commenting, sorry for the delay in responding, your comment got caught in my spam filter!
